❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How many days in advance can I book Tirupati darshan tickets?
TTD releases Special Entry Darshan (SED) tickets 60 days in advance at 10:00 AM on ttdonline.com. Free Slotted Sarvadarshanam tokens are released 30 days in advance. Weekend slots fill within minutes of release.
What is the dress code for Tirumala temple?
Men must wear dhoti or pyjama-kurta. Western trousers and half-pants are not allowed inside the temple. Women should wear saree, salwar kameez, or churidar. Shorts, sleeveless tops, and revealing clothing are strictly prohibited.
How long does the Tirupati darshan take?
Actual darshan inside the sanctum takes only 20–30 seconds. The waiting time in the queue is what varies — 2 to 3 hours for SED ticket holders, 4 to 8 hours for free Sarvadarshanam on weekdays, and up to 16 hours during festivals.
Can I walk to Tirumala from Tirupati on foot?
Yes! The Alipiri foot path is 11.5 km (about 4 hours of climbing) and the Srivari Mettu path is 5 km (about 2 hours). Both are well maintained with lighting and rest points. Many pilgrims prefer walking barefoot as a devotional act.
How many Tirupati laddus can I buy?
Each pilgrim can buy a maximum of 2 Tirupati laddus at ₹50 each. The iconic small prasadam laddu is distributed free after darshan. You can also pre-book premium large laddus online through TTD for ₹200.
Is hair tonsuring (head shaving) compulsory at Tirupati?
No, it is not compulsory. Hair tonsuring (Kalyani) is a voluntary vow. TTD has dedicated tonsuring centers at Tirupati and Tirumala open 24 hours. It is completely optional and free of cost.
