About Govindarajula Gutta:
Govindarajula Gutta is a revered site for Hindu devotees, known for its temple dedicated to Lord Ram at the hilltop (‘Gutta’ in Telugu) and a temple for Lord Hanuman at the base. Visitors must climb nearly 1,000 steps to reach the top. The site sees its highest footfall during the Sree Rama Navami festival, attracting throngs of devotees. At the hilltop rests a large Ratham (chariot) made of precious materials, believed to have been constructed by the Hazaris of Warangal.
Govindarajula Gutta History
According to legend, Lord Srinivasa of Tirupati, tired of granting wishes, came to rest in a cave on this hillock. He appeared in a dream to Rudrama Devi, revealing his presence. Rudrama Devi’s men discovered the main idol of Shri Govindaraja Swamy and Lord Krishna. Subsequently, a temple was built on the hillock, housing the swayambu (self-manifested) deity between two huge rocks in a sleeping and watching posture. Since then, all Vishnu festivals have been grandly celebrated at this temple.
